Community Bike Shop & Bike Valet

Does it take more than a bike lane to bring bikers to the street? We believe it does. But don’t get us wrong, we love our bike lanes. They connect Glass Street all the way to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and the Main Street Arts Districts. So, we’re always looking for ways to encourage more bikers to use those lanes. During the Better Block event, local bike enthusiast Reis Costa set up the Glass Street Community Bike Shop. This pop-up shop offered free bike repairs for kids in the community. Velo Coffee rallied folks for a Critical Mass Bike Ride from Main to Glass Street where the bike-commuters were invited to check their ride at the Bike Valet coordinated by Jenny Park. That day, Glass Street saw the most cycling action (from in and around the community) that it’s ever seen on any single day.

Outcomes:
22 bicycles  fixed from The Glass Street Community Bike Shop
75 donated materials to help fix bikes
18 bikes parked in valet
15 participated in the Main St to Glass St bike ride
