Countdown to Glass Street LIVE!
Word is out and we’re totally excited as the countdown to Glass Street LIVE! begins. By now we hope you have saved the date for Saturday, November 3rd and plan to join us on the corner of Dodson Avenue and Glass Street.
The reasons we love our annual block party are many and this year there will be even more. Our biggest news is we’re pleased to now have the Gospel On Glass program officially a part of Glass Street LIVE! Stay tuned for an upcoming blog feature on this year’s Gospel On Glass musical director and curator, Deborah Bledsoe, as we announce who will be on stage this year. What we can tell you now is that we can’t wait!
We’re also excited to announce that there will be a Step Show added to this year’s schedule of activities at Glass Street Live. Students from UTC will be hosting a rousing step show competition including cash prizes for the winners picked by the crowd! Don’t miss this and help us pick the best steppers!
Glass Street LIVE! is now in its 5th year and we know for a fact that our favorite block party is a great and memorable way to bring our neighborhood together to celebrate everyone’s hard work. We are bringing our streets back to life!
Of course, we are Glass Street and we are all about participation and creation so there will be plenty of new fun ways for attendees to explore their artistic side including kids’ screen printing, and even a chance to envision the future in our exciting streetscape simulator. Capes and Superheroes is also new this year where your kids can earn their own superhero status while learning to lend a helping hand.
With new vendors coming each year, Glass Street LIVE! continues to serve as a sort of culturally conscious mini-marketplace, where residents can sell their own products and services amongst other vendors and other nonprofits. Beyond food trucks, which often fit easily into street festivals and public events, it can be hard to find a fit for emerging homegrown goods and services that need culturally conscious audiences and consumers. We’re proud to say that Glass Street Live addresses this need.
Another crucial, meaningful and lasting impact of our annual block party, which is built on Better Block concepts, is creating a healthy and safe place for kids who are growing up here. Glass Street LIVE is a trusted neighborhood space where kids can play and discover new things, while making memories with friends and family in a place they know, love and trust.
Glass House Collective loves this annual opportunity to celebrate and highlight all of our projects especially in partnership with the residents here. This year we’re also looking forward to highlighting the ideas and the individuals involved with all the progress we’ve made on the neighborhood pride and streetscaping projects. Residents will be showcasing what they have been working on all year as they own the process of making change in their neighborhoods. Come meet these change-makers and be inspired!
It can be so hard to compete with the negative and sometimes violent headlines of our times. Producing a festival together helps us not only mend the fragile fibers of our community, but also create positive headlines and human experiences.
