The Kings and Queens of East Chattanooga

Did you see the December 2^nd cover story of The Pulse?  The article, “The Masks We Make,” featured Mark Making’s latest East Chattanooga public art installation, “The Kings and Queens of East Chattanooga,” and we couldn’t be more proud.  The piece is a collection of 14 3D printed sculptures of East Chattanooga youth that participated in a Glass Street Fall Break camp.  Glass House Collective recruited the teens and Mark Making’s camp introduced them to 3D scanning and printing technology.  Their faces were scanned, digitally converted to print files, and ultimately 3D printed.  Once printed the teens attended art classes in which they studied ancient Egyptian pharaoh masks and Benin Empire head casts and painted their masks in that style.

More importantly the article speaks to Mark Making’s commitment to Glass Street and East Chattanooga.  As the article states, “They are not on Glass Street as dilettantes or tourists. They are there as neighbors.”  We are so excited to have them as neighbors and can’t wait to see what else they debut in East Chattanooga.  We encourage you to please read the entire article.
